Urine Collection Guidelines
Step 1
Have individual urinate in proper collection device.
Step 2
Ensure the sample is sealed properly by tightening until you hear ‘click’ noise.

1. Leaks may result in contamination or inability to process specimens.
2. Recommended collection volume is 30mL.

Step 3
Verify the temperature of the patient specimen is in range of 32.5-37.7°C (90.5-100°F). This should be read within 4 minutes of sample collection.

1. If temperature is out of range, please reject the specimen and recollect the sample from patient.

Step 4
If manual requisition, place 2 identifiers on sample, OR for online order place the label on the sample and at least 1 other identifier.

1. The lack of 2 identifiers will result in the sample being discarded.

Step 5
Place the sample in the proper biohazard bag, along with any necessary paperwork in the pocket and ensure the biohazard bag is properly sealed.

FAST AND SIMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURE

Please see package insert for complete instructions.

Step 1 – Swab
Oral Fluid Place swab under tongue for at least 5 minutes (not exceeding 15 minutes).

Target 8 minutes.

Step 2 – Snap
Oral Fluid 1. Insert pad in vial

2. Snap wand at scoring

Step 3 – Seal
Oral Fluid 1. Recap and apply seal

2. Send to laboratory

1Step 1 Respiratory Testing
  1. Order test and print Barcode label.
  2. Wash hands and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Follow your facility’s protocol.It is recommended that a disposable lab coat or gown, gloves, N95 mask and facesheild be worn during collection.
2Step 2 Respiratory Testing Collection Kit

  1. Biohazard specimen bag
  2. 0.9% Normal Saline Tube or Citroswab (VTM) viral transport medium. Either is acceptable.
  3. Nasopharyngeal swab
  4. One strip of Parafilm tube sealer
3Step 3 Respiratory Testing
  1. Aseptically remove sterile swab from package.
  2. Tilt patient’s head back slightly 70º to straighten nasal passage.
4Step 4 Respiratory Testing
  1. Insert swab straight back horizontally (Not upwards) to the nasopharynx until resistance is met. Do not force.
  2. Rotate swab up to 5 times and hold in place 5-10 seconds to collect sample.
5Step 5 Respiratory Testing Tip: Insert flexible shaft swab through nares parallel to Palate until:

  1. Resistance is met, OR
  2. Distance is equivalent to half the distance from nostil to ear.
6Step 6 Respiratory Testing
  1. Place swab into the viral transport medium and break off handle where indicated. (Swab must be in the tube to be accepted)
  2. Cap tightly and label tube with barcode label as shown
7Step 7 Respiratory Testing
  1. Remove the backing of the Parafilm and start wrapping the film around the seam of the cap and tube. Stretch the film going all the way around the cap of the tube. Think of it like stretchy Cling Wrap. This will help seal the tube from leaks.
8Step 8 Respiratory Testing
  1. Place back into individual biohazard bag and zip-lock shut.
  2. Keep and transport at ambient temperature 15° to 30°C (59°- 86°F). Keep specimens refrigerated, 2-8°C if shipping is delayed.
