Urine Collection Guidelines
Step 1 |
Have individual urinate in proper collection device. |
Step 2 |
Ensure the sample is sealed properly by tightening until you hear ‘click’ noise.
1. Leaks may result in contamination or inability to process specimens. |
Step 3 |
Verify the temperature of the patient specimen is in range of 32.5-37.7°C (90.5-100°F). This should be read within 4 minutes of sample collection.
1. If temperature is out of range, please reject the specimen and recollect the sample from patient. |
Step 4 |
If manual requisition, place 2 identifiers on sample, OR for online order place the label on the sample and at least 1 other identifier.
1. The lack of 2 identifiers will result in the sample being discarded. |
Step 5 |
Place the sample in the proper biohazard bag, along with any necessary paperwork in the pocket and ensure the biohazard bag is properly sealed. |
